Do you seek different time frames for your classes?
Iowa Lakes offers a number of flexible learning formats that you might be able to work into your schedule. These include Evening Classes, Fast Track, Flex Term, Hybrid, Independent Study, Laker Express Online Learning and Third Age College.
Evening Classes
Evening classes include a wide variety of curriculum beginning as early as 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Some courses meet once a week; others meet twice a week. Classes last between 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on the coursework. Classes end no later than 9 p.m.
"Fast Track" Accelerated Credit Courses
"Fast-Track" provides highly intense courses that allow students to earn up to three semester hours of credit in as few as six days. Courses are designed to meet the needs of busy students who want the convenience of a fast-paced course without compromising the quality or content. Courses may be applied toward a degree. Contact Iowa Lakes for more information.
Flex Term Courses
Yet another format for obtaining college credit is the Flex Term. In this format, a normal college course can be delivered in one-half a semester, while attending classes twice as often during that time. This gives a more intense coverage of the material. Contact Iowa Lakes for more information.
Hybrid
Hybrid courses are a combination of face-to-face and online content.
Independent Study
A variety of course work is available in Business, Humanities, Student Development, Mathematics, Psychology and Social Sciences. These transferable Independent Study Classes are instructor guided and available at all campuses unless indicated otherwise.
Laker Express
Laker Express courses consist of a series of courses during the semester, each lasting three weeks in length. The courses are currently held on the Estherville campus and meet from 1-4:55 p.m. Monday through Friday. Students may take the full series each semester and limit their time in the classroom so they may work in the evenings or mornings. This addition of a Laker Express course can be a good option for those who need to maintain full-time status.
Online Learning
There has been explosive enrollment growth in online enrollment recently. More than 800 students are taking at least one online course – that’s more than 25 percent of the student body. Online classes include ‘threaded discussions’ of the professor and the students in the class. Iowa Lakes is collaborating with other colleges to learn and create new courses and learning objectives.
Third Age College
The Third Age College is an educational organization that provides an academic setting to enrich the lives of individuals over the age of 55 and other interested people. Classes meet in Algona and Spencer. A variety of topics and subject areas are covered in courses.
